Overtime & Holiday Pay Regulations (Antigua Labour Code)
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Code (Cap. 27, Division C, Section C13 & C14) sets statutory working hours and overtime remuneration scales:
Statutory Working Hours & Rates:
- Standard Workday & Workweek: Standard work is 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week across 5 working days.
- Regular Overtime (Section C13): Hours worked in excess of the standard daily or weekly hours must be compensated at not less than 1.5 times (time-and-a-half) the basic hourly wage rate.
- Rest Days: Employees are entitled to at least one 24-hour rest day per week (typically Sunday). Work performed on a scheduled rest day is paid at 1.5x or 2.0x double time according to collective agreements.
- Public Holidays (Public Holidays Act): Work performed on any of the 11 official statutory public holidays (including Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Independence Day, Christmas Day) entitles the worker to double time (2.0x) basic hourly pay.
