Aruba Road Tax & Vehicle Regulations
All registered motor vehicles in Aruba are subject to annual statutory road dues and roadworthiness protocols under the Landsverordening op de motorrijtuigenbelasting:
- Motorrijtuigenbelasting (MRB): Managed by the Departamento di Impuesto (DIMP). Road tax is calculated primarily on empty vehicle weight (Leeggewicht) and fuel category. Diesel passenger vehicles face a substantial environmental surcharge (~100%), whereas pure electric vehicles receive tax concessions.
- Instalment Options: Motorists can settle their road tax annually (in January), semi-annually (two payments in January and July), or in four quarterly instalments (January, April, July, October).
- Technical Inspection (Keuring): Administered by the DOW vehicle inspection facility at Barcadera. All passenger vehicles older than 3 years must pass an annual roadworthiness inspection (AWG 50 fee) testing brakes, emissions, lights, tires, and suspension.
- License Plate Validation: Vehicles must display valid Aruba license plates (issued every 2-3 years at AWG 14/set) with annual validation tax stickers.
