⚖️ Reformed Indexation Cap (CPI vs WPI)
Following the Australian Universities Accord, the Government reformed HECS indexation from 2024 onwards:
- Lower of CPI or WPI: Indexation is now capped at whichever is lower between the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Wage Price Index (WPI).
- Retrospective Credit: Backdated to 2023, reducing the 7.1% spike to 3.2% WPI and issuing automated ATO credits.
- No Interest: HECS loans remain interest-free; only indexation applies on 1 June each year.
