Bahamas BPL Electricity Bill Calculator

Simulate monthly power charges in The Bahamas including stepped base rates, variable fuel adjustment charges (FAC), and the 800 kWh statutory VAT exemption.

Average Bahamian household consumes 600 - 1,200 kWh/month

Current monthly fuel adjustment pass-through (typically $0.18 - $0.26/kWh)

Residential consumption under 800 kWh is zero-rated for VAT

BPL Tariff Structure & URCA Regulations

Electricity in New Providence and the Family Islands is regulated by the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA). A customer's electric bill comprises two primary billing elements:

Base Electricity Charge

Covers operational, capital, and administrative infrastructure. Residential Tariff A applies stepped rates: BSD$0.1095 for the first 200 kWh, BSD$0.1195 from 201 to 800 kWh, and BSD$0.1495 for consumption exceeding 800 kWh.

Fuel Adjustment Charge (FAC)

Direct pass-through of fuel purchase costs without mark-up by BPL. Because The Bahamas relies heavily on imported fuel oils, this charge represents between 55% and 70% of a customer's monthly power bill.

800 kWh VAT Exemption Rule

Under the Value Added Tax Act, residential electricity consumption of 800 kWh or less per month is zero-rated (0% VAT). Residential bills exceeding 800 kWh and all commercial accounts are subject to standard 10% VAT.
