Annual Vacation & Maternity Rights in Belize (Labour Act & SSB)

The welfare of working mothers and the statutory right to paid rest are governed by the Labour Act (Chapter 297) and the Social Security Board (SSB):

1. 16 Working Days Annual Leave (Section 127)

Every worker who has completed twelve months of continuous service with an employer is legally entitled to an annual holiday with full pay of not less than sixteen working days (or two calendar weeks).

2. 14 Weeks Maternity Leave (Section 171)

Female employees are entitled to a total of 14 weeks maternity leave, normally taken 7 weeks before the expected date of delivery and 7 weeks immediately after confinement, with strict job security protections.

3. SSB Maternity Allowance (80%)

The Social Security Board pays an insured female employee a weekly maternity allowance equal to 80% of her average weekly insurable earnings for up to 14 weeks, subject to the BZ$ 520/week ceiling (maximum BZ$ 416.00/week).

4. BZ$ 300 SSB Maternity Grant

In addition to the weekly wage replacement allowance, the Social Security Board provides a direct cash grant of BZ$ 300.00 for each child born to an insured woman or an insured husband.
