Bermuda Employment Act 2000 Statutory Rules
Under the Employment Act 2000, employees who work beyond the standard statutory threshold or on recognized public holidays are entitled to premium compensation:
Overtime Thresholds (Section 13)
- Standard Hours: 40 hours in any week unless a lower figure is stipulated by contract.
- Overtime Rate: At least 1.5 times the employee's regular hourly rate, or alternatively paid time off in lieu if mutually agreed in writing.
- Managerial Exemption: Professionals, managers, and executives earning above standard thresholds are typically exempt from statutory overtime.
Bermuda's 10 Public Holidays
- New Year's Day, Good Friday, Bermuda Day, National Heroes Day, Emancipation Day, Mary Prince Day, Labour Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day.
- Holiday Pay: Employees required to work on a public holiday must receive their normal daily pay plus overtime at regular rate (or 2.0x total rate), or normal pay with a replacement day off.
- Currency: BD$ 1.00 = US$ 1.00.
