What are the statutory contribution rates and income levels under the MPF system? ▼
Under Cap. 485, both employee and employer must each contribute 5% of the employee's relevant monthly income to a registered MPF scheme. For monthly income below HK$7,100 (minimum level), the employee contributes 0% while the employer must still contribute 5%. For monthly income between HK$7,100 and HK$30,000, both contribute 5%. For monthly income above HK$30,000 (maximum level), contributions are capped at HK$1,500 per month each.
What constitutes 'Relevant Income' for MPF calculation purposes? ▼
Relevant income includes wages, salaries, leave pay, fees, commissions, bonuses, gratuities, perquisites, and allowances. It excludes statutory severance payments and long service payments paid under the Employment Ordinance.
How much can employees deduct for MPF contributions on their Salaries Tax return? ▼
Employees can claim a statutory tax deduction for their mandatory MPF contributions under Section 26G of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, up to an annual maximum limit of HK$18,000 (i.e. HK$1,500 × 12 months) per year of assessment.

When can MPF accrued benefits be withdrawn? ▼
MPF accrued benefits can generally only be withdrawn when the scheme member reaches the statutory retirement age of 65. Early withdrawal is permitted only under strict statutory conditions: early retirement at age 60, permanent departure from Hong Kong, total incapacity, terminal illness, or small balance account.
