Frequently Asked Statutory Questions

What is CSED (Csecsemőgondozasi díj) and how much is paid?

CSED is paid for 168 calendar days (24 weeks) starting 4 weeks before birth or at birth. It is paid at 100% of the daily gross wage base and is 100% EXEMPT from personal income tax (SZJA) and social security (TB)!

What is GYED (Gyermekgondozasi díj) and what is the statutory ceiling?

GYED is paid following CSED until the child reaches 2 years of age. It equals 70% of the gross salary base, capped at twice the minimum wage base (capped at ~373,520 HUF gross/month). It is subject to 15% SZJA and 10% pension contribution.

What is GYES (Gyermekgondozast segítő ellatas)?

GYES is a universal state childcare benefit paid from age 2 to 3 (or up to age 10 for disabled children), fixed at 28,500 HUF gross (25,650 HUF net per month after 10% pension deduction).

Can a mother work while receiving GYED?

Yes. After the child turns 6 months old, a parent receiving GYED can return to work full-time without any limit on earnings while continuing to receive 100% of their statutory GYED payments.

Can fathers receive GYED?

Yes. The father can claim GYED (Apai GYED) from the time the child turns 6 months old, often maximizing household payouts if the father has a higher gross salary.
