What is the duration of statutory maternity leave in Lebanon?
Under Lebanese Law No. 266 amending Article 28 of the Labor Code, working women are entitled to ten (10) consecutive weeks (70 calendar days) of paid maternity leave, including the period preceding and following childbirth.
Who pays the employee salary during maternity leave in Lebanon?
Maternity leave is paid in full (100% of normal basic salary and regular allowances) by the employer. The employee is legally entitled to full wages provided she has completed at least one continuous year of service with the employer.
Is an employer allowed to terminate an employee during maternity leave?
No. Article 29 of the Labor Code strictly prohibits employers from giving notice of dismissal or dismissing a female employee while she is on maternity leave or absent due to medically certified pregnancy-related illness.
Are nursing breaks provided under Lebanese labor legislation?
Yes. Working mothers are entitled to daily paid nursing breaks of one hour per working day for up to one year following the birth of the child, without deduction from normal pay.
