The New 2-Year Bright-Line Test (From 1 July 2024)
Under the Taxation (Annual Rates for 2023-24, Multinational Tax, and Remedial Matters) Act, the Bright-Line test was reformed:
2-Year Period for All Properties
Regardless of when the property was purchased, if it is sold on or after 1 July 2024, only a 2-year Bright-Line test applies (reduced from 5 or 10 years).
Main Home Exclusion
If the property was used as the owner's main home for more than 50% of the ownership duration, the entire profit is completely tax-free.
