The Norwegian Stromstotte Electricity Subsidy
In response to international energy volatility, the Norwegian Parliament enacted the Stromstotteordningen for residential households:
- 90% Government Coverage: Whenever the hourly spot price on Nord Pool exceeds 73 ore per kWh (excl. MVA), the Norwegian state automatically pays 90% of the excess.
- Automatic Line Item: The subsidy is calculated hourly by the local grid operator (nettselskap) and deducted directly from your monthly power and grid invoice.
- Northern Norway MVA Exemption: Consumers in Northern Norway (NO4) are constitutionally exempt from the 25% MVA on electricity and enjoy reduced consumer consumption fees.
