Norwegian Employment Protection (Arbeidsmiljoloven)
Under Chapter 15 of Norway's Arbeidsmiljoloven (AML):
- Notice Period Calculation: Notice periods count from the first day of the calendar month following the delivery of notice.
- Age and Seniority: Employees over 50 years of age with at least 10 years of service receive extended notice periods of 4, 5, or 6 months.
- No Mandatory Statutory Severance: Norwegian law requires notice period pay rather than lump-sum severance. However, voluntary severance packages (sluttpakker) are frequently negotiated during corporate reorganizations.
