Vehicle Taxes & Mandatory SOAT in Peru
Under the Ley de Tributacion Municipal (D. Leg. 776) and traffic safety statutes:
Impuesto al Patrimonio Vehicular (SAT)
Levied at an annual rate of 1.0% on automobiles, pickup trucks, and station wagons during the first 3 years following their initial registration in the SUNARP Public Registry. From the fourth year onward, the vehicle is completely exempt from this municipal tax.
SOAT & CITV Inspections
• SOAT: Mandatory for all motor vehicles circulating on public roads, covering medical expenses and death benefits up to 4 UIT without liability determination.
• CITV: Private passenger vehicles are exempt from technical safety inspections for the first 3 years of life, after which annual CITV certification becomes legally mandatory.
