Statutory Redundancy & Notice Rules in Saint Lucia

Under Part IV, Division 10 of the Saint Lucia Labour Act 2006, when an employer terminates an employee due to redundancy (business reorganization, modernization, downsizing, or closure), the following statutory guidelines apply:

Redundancy Pay Scale

  • Under 2 Years: No statutory redundancy pay required.
  • 2 to 5 Years: 1 week of basic wages per completed year of service.
  • 5 to 10 Years: 2 weeks of basic wages per completed year of service.
  • Over 10 Years: 3 weeks of basic wages for each year over 10 years.

Statutory Notice Periods

  • Under 4 weeks: 1 week notice or pay in lieu.
  • 4 weeks to 1 year: 2 weeks notice or pay in lieu.
  • 1 year to 5 years: 1 month (4.33 weeks) notice or pay in lieu.
  • 5+ years: 2 months (8.67 weeks) notice or pay in lieu.
