Working hours and overtime remuneration in the Federation are regulated by the Department of Labour under the Protection of Employment Act and statutory wage orders.

Standard Workweek & Overtime Rates

  • Standard Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day, 5 days per week).
  • Overtime Premium (1.5x): Work performed in excess of 8 hours on a regular working day must be compensated at one and a half times (1.5x) the normal hourly wage.
  • Double Time (2.0x): Work on a designated Sunday or statutory Public Holiday must be compensated at double (2.0x) the regular hourly wage.
