Saint Kitts & Nevis Value Added Tax (VAT) Framework
VAT in Saint Kitts and Nevis is governed by the Value Added Tax Act (Act 3 of 2010) and administered by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
Statutory Tax Rates & Categories
- Standard Rate (17%): General commercial goods, retail, dining, contracting, and professional services.
- Tourism Rate (10%): Applies to registered hotel accommodation, guest villas, yacht charters, and tourism excursions.
- Discount VAT Day (5%): Designated promotional sales days authorized by the Government where consumer items carry a reduced 5% rate.
- Zero-Rated (0%): Unprocessed basic food staples (flour, rice, sugar, bread, milk, local fresh produce), exports, prescription medications, and electricity up to 100 kWh.
- Exempt: Residential leases, financial services, public transport, and educational institutions.
Registration & Compliance
Commercial enterprises with gross taxable supplies exceeding EC$ 150,000 annually are legally required to register for VAT. Returns and payments must be remitted by the 15th day of each following month.
