Saint Kitts and Nevis Motor Vehicle Statutory Regulations

Vehicle ownership and importation in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis are governed by the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act (Cap. 15.06) administered by the Traffic Department and Inland Revenue Department, alongside the Customs & Excise Department at the Basseterre Deep Water Port and Charlestown Pier.

Annual Road Licence Renewal

  • • Based on vehicle tare weight (hundredweights / kg).
  • • Light cars up to 20 cwt: EC$ 200/yr.
  • • Medium passenger vehicles 21-30 cwt: EC$ 250/yr.
  • • Large cars & crossovers 31-40 cwt: EC$ 320/yr.
  • • Heavy SUVs & Pickups 41-50 cwt: EC$ 450/yr.
  • • Mandatory mechanical inspection fee: EC$ 60/yr.

Customs Import Tariffs

  • • CARICOM CET Import Duty: 35% on CIF.
  • • Customs Service Charge (CSC): 6% on CIF.
  • • Excise Tax: 30% (<1600cc), 40% (1600-3000cc), 45% (>3000cc).
  • • Environmental Surcharge: EC$ 5,000 for vehicles older than 2 yrs.
  • • Standard Import VAT: 17% compounded.
