Saint Vincent NIS Retirement Rules
The National Insurance Services (NIS) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines manages the national social security fund established under the National Insurance Act. All formally employed and registered self-employed workers contribute to the scheme to earn lifetime retirement protection.
Key Pension Benefit Provisions
- Statutory Pensionable Age: 65 years for both male and female contributors.
- Vesting Threshold: An insured person must accumulate at least 750 weekly contributions (approximately 14.4 to 15 years of continuous work) to qualify for an ongoing monthly pension.
- Graduated Scale: The baseline pension begins at 30% of average insurable earnings for 750 weeks. For every additional 50 contribution weeks beyond 750, the replacement rate increases by 1.0%, up to a statutory ceiling of 60% (reached at 2,250 weeks / 43 years).
- Statutory Minimum: No full pension payout may fall below the statutory floor of EC$ 70.00 per week (EC$ 303.33 per month).
- Lump-Sum Grant Alternative: Contributors reaching age 65 with between 50 and 749 weeks receive a one-off tax-free retirement grant calculated as 6 times the average weekly insurable earnings for each block of 50 contribution weeks.
