The Swedish Annual Leave Act (Semesterlagen)
Under Sweden's Semesterlagen, all full-time workers are legally entitled to a minimum of 25 days of paid annual vacation per qualifying year (semesterar):
- Semesterlon & Semestertillägg: When on vacation, employees continue receiving their normal regular monthly salary plus an extra holiday supplement (semestertillägg) of 0.43% (statutory) or 0.80% (under typical collective agreements like Unionen/Sveriges Ingenjorer) of their monthly salary for each day taken.
- Percentage Rule: For hourly workers and employees with significant variable commission, holiday pay equals 12% of gross qualifying annual income.
