Uganda Labour Law: Working Hours & Overtime
- Maximum Normal Working Hours (Section 53): Standard working hours shall not exceed 48 hours per week or 10 hours on any single day, except in emergencies or shift work.
- 1.5x Weekday Overtime: Any work authorized and performed beyond the daily normal hours on a normal working day is compensated at not less than one-and-a-half (1.5) times the basic hourly rate.
- 2.0x Public Holiday & Sunday Pay: Work performed on a designated weekly rest day or gazetted statutory public holiday is compensated at double time (2.0x the regular hourly wage) or granted time off in lieu.
- Gazetted Public Holidays: Uganda observes 13 official national public holidays per year (NRM Day Jan 26, Janani Luwum Day Feb 16, Martyrs' Day June 3, Heroes' Day June 9, Independence Day Oct 9, etc.).
